The Air Canada enRoute Film Festival – Celebrating 10 Years!

By August 15th, 2016

For 10 consecutive years, the Air Canada enRoute Film Festival has supported emerging Canadian filmmakers across Canada by providing a unique opportunity to have their films showcased onboard Air Canada’s in-flight entertainment.

To celebrate the Air Canada enRoute Film Festival’s 10th year anniversary and to expand itreach, the festival hosted coast-to-coast events across Canada. This year’s festival kicked off July 20 in Vancouver with a free outdoor screening of a selection of this year’s shorts in Robson Square, followed by its first-ever East Coast event in Halifax, featuring an industry cocktail reception and free screening at the Halifax Central Library. Additional events will be held this November, and will include a film-focused educational panel in Montreal and the festival’s annual awards gala and screening in Toronto.

Earlier this year, the festival teamed up with TELUS Storyhive to host two events in Alberta: an engaging filmmakers forum in Edmonton with director Michael Dowse, and a cocktail in Calgary, which gave the opportunity for emerging filmmakers to network with members of the film industry. Both events focused on providing a space for networking and advice for emerging filmmakers in Canada to enhance their craft.

To continue the celebrations, the festival has proudly brought back an all-star jury featuring jury members from the last 10 years. Led by acclaimed Canadian director Patricia Rozema (Into the Forest, Mansfield Park), this year’s top films will be voted on by a distinguished jury and announced at the awards gala in Toronto this November. Award winners will travel to the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, courtesy of Air Canada, and the winner of Best Short will receive $5,000, courtesy of sponsor Cineplex.

The festival films are currently available on Air Canada flights worldwide and will broadcast in flight until December 31, 2016. Passengers and movie lovers alike are encouraged to visit enRoutefilm.com from now until October 31, 2016 and vote for their favorite short to win the Air Canada enRoute Film Festival’s People’s Choice Award.

Managed in collaboration with Spafax Canada, the Air Canada enRoute Film Festival has grown substantially each year and is proud to be the only festival of its kind, providing a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers to gain exposure and boost their careers.
